Iranian New Year is coming within few hours; and people is usually expecting change, even rapid chang, simply because the nature is changing, and human being neglectly think this is related to their own situation.
But this is not the case and this is not trye. The question in front of us is whether the gap between us is narrow or widens. The real change is there. Thus, inequality is important matter we should think about it in the eve of New Year, even more than seasonal change. I think one has to start by asking whether or not inequality has been increased or decreased in the last year. Inequality matters, first of all, because inequality is a moral issue, if you have a society in which there is a vast gulf between us, that vast gulf is plausibly not morally defensible. Inequality always has, I think, a moral ethical component if you like about what kind of society is acceptable to us. If there is a gulf gap between us we cannot achieve our rights of citizenship, simply because
if we are underprivileged we do not have the chance to exercise whatever citizenship rights might be allocated to us. So if we are living on a very low income other things tend to flow from that: poor schooling; poor job opportunities and so forth. So inequality matters because it impinges upon rights of citizenship. We have think about any kind of inequality: inequalities of wealth of course, inequalities between the sexes, cultural inequalities, ethnic inequalities, inequalities between the generations, between young and old, so on and so forth… we have think about inequality in the eve of new year as much as seasonal changes…
